4 Must-Have Social Marketing Blog Shortcuts to Help Spread the Word

  • Stumbleupon

social-marketing-tipsYou’ve just written an amazing blog post, uncovered an incredible new tool or piece of software and now you want to tell the world about it. The problem is, you don’t want to come off as too self-promotional. Nobody likes a “social marketer” who just markets themselves.

So how do you make it easier for your followers, groups and friends to share your message? You integrate it with your blog posts and vice versa! Here are the easiest blog tools to make sure you’re maximizing your social networking efforts by making it easy for people to share your posts in just a few clicks.

1. Twitter Tools -  Alex King’s helpful Twitter Tools plugin will integrate your blog posts with Twitter and optionally let you create digests every day or week of your tweets and/or posts. Easy to install and start using – this is a Twitter blog plugin that you won’t want to be without!

2. Tweetmeme – Ever wonder how people put the “Tweet This” icon beside their posts similar to what you see at iElectrify? It’s possible through Tweetmeme, a free service that lets you add a snippet of code to your site and makes it possible for others to tweet your posts on Twitter. There’s also a Wordpress plugin version that will attach a “Tweet This!” button beside each post.

3. Sociable -  This plugin gives your visitors the opportunity to share your site through their favorite bookmarking or networking service such as del.icio.us, digg, Facebook, StumbleUpon and dozens more. You can also check out a related plugin that offers a more customizable way to share – ShareThis.

4. Su.pr – A recently launched service by StumbleUpon that’s more than just a URL-shortening service. Using su.pr, you can not only shorten your links through Twitter, but clicking on a su.pr link will also include a quick StumbleUpon-style toolbar that lets someone stumble a post right from your site without needing to install anything. Currently you’ll need to request an invite code as the service is still in beta testing, but following StumbleUpon on Twitter gives invite codes fairly often.

There are new invites being added all the time if you use code “suprbeta”. Give these new social shortcuts a try in your Wordpress blog and start sharing information across the microblogosphere the easy way. If you’ve found a particularly helpful plugin that integrates your blog with Twitter or other social networking services, why not share it in the comments below?

I tried setting up su.pr, but I’m having a really hard time with it. You need to add code to your .htaccess file or the .conf file in the root directory in your wordpress blog.

The only problem is… where the hell are the files? If anyone knows how to set this up for wordpress, please let me know!

    Thanks

    Hi Mike,

Yes, setting up su.pr directly is a bit of a pain, and if you’re not familiar with editing .htaccess, it can cause errors. Make sure you have the proper PHP libraries installed through your web hosting company. At the moment, I’m using it just to shorten selective URLs rather than all of them. I’m looking forward to seeing su.pr become more integrated with blogs as Twitter tools and Tweetmeme are.
