How to Get on the First Page of Google for Free

June 3rd, 2008 | Posted in Search Engine Optimization | No Comments

As the undisputed king of the search engine domain, Google has quickly gobbled up almost 50% of the web search market.  The problem is, there’s only room for so many sites on the venerable “first page”.

Getting on page one can be a traffic jackpot for your site, and it doesn’t have to be time-consuming or costly.  In fact, you can get on the first page of Google for free!  Here’s how.

The secret to getting on the first page involves a lot of different factors, including the number of links to your site and the quality of the sites linking to yours.

Other important keys include the content of your site and whether or not it includes keywords that are relevant to what you offer.

The good news is – you don’t have to pay a search engine marketing company to get you that extra exposure.  You can do it yourself and for free, thanks to article marketing.

To write articles that will help Google index your site (no matter how “new” it is), follow these 4 easy steps:

1. Go to Google.com and type in a keyword or phrase that you think your visitors would use to find your site.

2. Click on the site that comes up first in the search results.  Highlight and copy that site’s URL from your browser’s address bar (shortcut Ctrl+C on your keyboard)

3. Now go to Google’s Free Keyword Tool and click the “Website Content” button under “How would you like to generate keyword ideas?”

4. Paste in the URL from Step 2 (Use keyboard shortcut Ctrl+V to paste).  Then click “Get Keyword Ideas”

As you look at the results, see if you can find keywords that you could base articles around.  Then start writing!  If you’re at a loss for how to write a good, keyword-rick article, consider writing about:

• How to use (the keyword or keyphrase)
• How to improve_______
• Warnings or problems to avoid with______
• Insider tips to get the most out of _____

These should help get you started with writing articles that Google will notice.  It’s a good idea to have around 10 articles to start with, and write a new one each day if you can.

Since each article only has to be around 1-2 pages, you can write them often within 30 minutes or less.

The next step is to submit them to the top article directories.  This helps bring incoming links to your site from quality resources – and Google will notice.   The top three article directories that bring the majority of traffic to your site are:

1. EZineArticles.com
2. GoArticles.com
3. ArticleDashboard.com

There are also industry-specific directories for businesses such as real estate, online marketing and so on.

To submit to these kinds of directories, I recommend downloading a free article submission software such as Article Submitter.  There are over 300 quality-ranked directories you can submit your articles to for even more traffic and links in Google.

If you’d rather not use a submission program (even though it speeds up the tedious task of submitting to all those article directories), you can also buy service that will submit your articles for you, such as isnare.com

Then, just continue to write and submit one new article each day and watch the targeted traffic pour in!  In no time at all you’ll rocket your way to the top of Google for lesser searched, but more targeted keywords – and attract your ideal buyer in the process!
