If you submit your site to Google the “normal” way (via Google’s Add URL page), it could be weeks, or even months before you see your site in the search results. The good news is, you can get listed in Google within 24 hours if you follow the steps I’ve outlined below:
Step 1: Make sure your site is ready. That means no broken links and no “under construction” pages. Above all, make sure your home page, and all the pages linking to and from it have keyword-rich content.
That means when you write your web page content, make sure it includes some of the keywords you want your website to be found in the search results for.
Step 2: Make sure your site is laid out properly. This means harnessing a little-known but highly-effective “trick” to force Google’s search engine spider (the program that crawls web pages) to look at your keyword-rich content first, and not your links, which don’t have as much “value” in Google’s eyes and won’t help you rank higher.
Here’s how you do this:
Most sites are laid out with your typical header at the top (including the logo and some common links like About, Products, Contact Us, etc.) Then, the links commonly appear in the left pane, while the content appears on the right side.
Google’s search engine spider “reads” your content from the top left, to the bottom right, like so:

That means, as soon as it comes to your page, it will normally read the links first, and then move on to the content.
But for the best possible results, you’ll want Google to read your content first – and then move on to the links. The way to do that is to insert an extra table cell above the area where your links appear. This extra cell will be completely empty, so Google will “see” nothing in it, and continue on to the content, like so:

This is exactly what you want, as it tells Google to prioritize your site according to the keyword-rich content first – and then the (less important) links, second.
Step 3: Get the Google Toolbar. The Google Toolbar sits unobtrusively below your normal web browser’s common buttons like Back, Forward, Refresh and so on. It lets you search Google right from your browser instead of having to type www.google.com every time – which is very convenient if you use the search engine every day.
But the Google Toolbar also has an added benefit – it displays the PageRank of each site you visit. PageRank is Google’s way of ranking a site – the higher the PageRank, the higher the site ranks in the search engine results.
Many sites can have the same PageRank – so don’t be surprised if, after you install the Google Toolbar, you see many sites with the same green bar level. You can download the Toolbar from http://toolbar.google.com – it’s free and does not install extra junk like spyware or adware on your computer.
To get it to show PageRank, click on Settings, then Options, then the More tab. Under the “Even More Buttons” click the checkbox that reads “PageRank and Page Info”. (You may have to restart your browser for this to take effect).
You’ll know if it’s installed correctly if you can see the PageRank indicator at the top of your page. Now as you browse other web pages, you’ll likely see a green bar on the page. The longer the bar, the higher the PageRank.
Now comes the good part…
Step 4: Get indexed in 24 hours. Now that your site is ready to shine, it’s time to tell Google about it – but not the way you might think. Instead of submitting to Google’s regular “add URL” page, simply go to google.com and type in a broad, generic keyword. So if your site is about dog grooming, type in “dogs”.
In this case, the more generic the keyword is the better. You’ll likely get millions of results this way, but that’s to be expected. Visit the Top 10 sites and see if they have a link exchange. There will usually be a “Link to Us” button or text link at the bottom of the page.
If you don’t see anything, look for the Contact information on the site. Be polite about asking for a link exchange and be sure to put that site’s link on your page first so you can show them that you’ve already linked to them.
This helps show that you took the initiative first, and the site owner will probably be more willing to link to you in return. Remember your “netiquette” and don’t be rude or bombard them with emails asking for a link back. If they say “no”, or don’t reply – just move on to the next site.
Ideally you’ll want to get links from sites that have a PageRank of 5 or better. One with a PageRank of 6 will get your site indexed within 24 hours – but a PageRank of 5 will get you indexed in less than a week!
Good luck!
