The breakneck pace of online business and the frantic “need-it-yesterday” pace of communication today is making lots of web business owners wonder if they really can afford to take time off like “everybody else”.
For lots of people working at a 9-to-5 job in the U.S., Labor Day is the one holiday out of the year when workers and their families come together to enjoy the last moments of summer. The grill sizzles its final farewell. One last picnic lunch is prepared and packed. Kids get the day off from school to indulge in one more day of summer vacation.
But if you’re running a home business or a business on the web, you already know how tempting it is to give in and “get caught up” on the weekends. Holidays are no exception. Maybe there’s a looming deadline you just can’t get out of your mind, or you have a few precious minutes you’d like to devote to a pet project that’s been gathering dust.
Whatever it is, you probably feel a pang of envy toward those workers and their families out enjoying the parades and picnics today. But deep down, you feel that the work you put in today will mean you’re better off tomorrow. That may be - but perhaps one of the best things that online business and home business owners can do for themselves during times like this is:
Take the day off.
Recharge your mental batteries. Put all your projects and deadlines on the back burner for today. The world and civilization as we know it will not collapse because you took the day off. Life will go on. And by enjoying today, you won’t feel panicked tomorrow. No one will - because they were all out enjoying those last sweet tidbits of summer too!
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some barbecuing to do!
