Back in the early days of the Internet, the only way to set up an ecommerce website was to go through the endless hassle of getting a merchant account. This was a major setback for small business owners because of all the fees involved - both per-transaction fees, monthly fees and a fee if you didn’t sell a certain amount in a given month!
Fortunately, times have changed and it’s much easier to accept and process credit card payments online. Depending on which country you live in, one of the following three services can help you take payments with your website:
1. Paypal - Send and receive payments from over 130 countries through Paypal. They charge 2.9% plus 30 cents per transaction, which is far less than any merchant account.
This is the quickest and cheapest way to accept credit cards on your website, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and E-Checks. Sell a standalone product or service, a subscription or use Paypal’s shopping cart to sell multiple products.
2. 2Checkout.com - Another popular online payment processor. 2Checkout lets you receive payments from all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Discover). They take 5.5% plus 45 cents per transaction and there is a $49 set-up fee. 2Checkout is not as popular as Paypal, but if for some reason you can’t accept Paypal in your country, look into 2Checkout.
3. ClickBank - In addition to letting you accept the four major credit cards, ClickBank also accepts payments from international credit cards such as EuroCard and Novus. They also accept debit cards from Visa and Mastercard as well.
ClickBank charges 7.5% plus $1 per transaction which is higher than 2Checkout and Paypal, but on the good side, they let you start and manage your own affiliate program to recruit others to sell for you in exchange for a commission.
Whichever payment processing solution you choose, you’ll need a highly-experienced web professional to help you set it up and accept orders online. Contact iElectrify for a free quote on setting up any of the payment processors with your ecommerce website and start selling online the easy way!
