WordPress Custom Avatars Plugin

wordpress-custom-avatarsHave you ever wished you could give the people who comment on your blog a custom avatar that matches your blog design and theme?

For many people, blog avatar plugins like Wavatar, Identicon and MonsterID are all they have to choose from in addition to the widely supported Gravatar. But what if stick figure monsters and unusual shape faces or quilt pattern icons just aren’t your style?

Enter iElectrify’s custom avatars plugin for WordPress (2.5 and above). With this plugin, you’ll be able to upload any number of icons to your blog and have them appear next to the post of anyone who leaves a comment, only if they don’t have a Gravatar enabled. The end result? Your blog stays stylish while your visitors get unique avatars for each comment.

To install it, simply open the zip file and follow the easy installation instructions. To find beautiful themed icons (most of which are free for personal and commercial use), check out iconfinder.net. Enjoy!

    Hi all,

I’ve been working on an enhancement to identicons. My version is able to rotate the identicon, and generate triangular, pentagonal, hexagonal and septagonal identicons.

For a preview, check out http://www.sambira.com/identicons.png

Anyone like to to help me offload this into the WWW? Will share the credit.

This issue is fixed – sorry about that!

Hey Sherice – Great plugin and is almost exactly what I am looking for. If an avatar could be uniquely tied to a commentators email address, that would be awesome. So an avatar would be specific to only one commentator. Any thoughts of adding that functionality or thoughts on what it might take to achieve that?

Hi Ed — I’ve thought about that, but then it would kind of duplicate what Gravatar (gravatar.com) does — attach an avatar to an email address. So instead, I made them random. You’d use up a lot of Avatars if you had one for every visitor that came to your blog – every time!
