7 Surprising Things Clients Teach Their Web Designers

  • Stumbleupon

web-designerIt’s usually the designer or developer who hopes to pass on some knowledge of website management, ecommerce usability and polished product descriptions onto their clients – but clients can teach their designers a thing or two as well.

As iElectrify nears its 10th anniversary of being online (yes, I’m an Internet fossil), I took a look back through some of the many things my clients have taught me over the years.  Do you have something memorable a customer has taught you?  Share it below in the comments!

1. Dream BIG.

The most unusual and wildly popular websites were all once startups founded on one person’s ability to think outside the box and say “What if?”

2. No Doesn’t Always Mean No.

It simply means “You haven’t given me enough good reasons to take action on this – yet.”

3. Don’t Confuse Size with Success.

Personal, attentive service will outshine mighty corporate fanfare every time.

4. Clear Out the Clutter.

Make it simple, relevant and direct.  Everything else is just fluff and filler.

5. We’re All Human.

Everybody makes mistakes.  Be honest and forthcoming.  Sometimes your weaknesses can be your strengths.

6. Be Real.

Nobody wants to do business with a logo.  Put a face with your business.

7. Consistency and Passion are Crucial.

Fresh news and updates on a timely basis – even if they’re small, personal tidbits, inspire more customer loyalty than hawking your brand name at every corner ever could.

Even if you’re not in the web design business, what are some things you’ve learned from your customers over the years?
