You wouldn’t think that sites like CNN or AOL News would have anything to do with your blog – but there’s one important thing they can teach you –
The answer? How to craft a great blog title that gets noticed, and gets read!
Creating a good, newsworthy blog title is difficult for many people – almost as difficult as writing the blog entry itself (although I’ve written tips for this as well if you’re struggling!)
The good thing is, you can use sites like CNN and AOL News to get ideas for crafting your own popular blog title. Obviously you shouldn’t plagiarize – but notice and learn from the way they write and then tailor that writing to your own blog posts.
For example, as I was writing this, the most popular stories were:
• Spies to use Skype to Send Secret Messages
• Stonehenge was “Domain of the Dead”
• Man claims he captured alien on film
And there’s a reason they’re popular: they create intrigue, curiosity and, in the case of the first one, have a sense of urgency. Can you write blog titles that evoke these same feelings in your readers?
For instance, some of my most popular posts are:

Titles like these help provoke reader’s emotions and make them want to learn more. If you can create a unique angle to a popular story that no one else has covered in quite the same way – you can expect to see view to that page increase by as much as 300% or more!
Obviously, it should go without saying that you shouldn’t fake news or distort the truth just to get visitors. Unleash your creativity and think of new ways to promote or build upon the content you have and what you want to explain.
The lesson you should take away from this entry is this: Notice how top news sites craft their titles and see if there’s a way you can emulate them and push the user’s emotional buttons to make them want to learn more – without stretching the truth.
Good luck!
